He began his career as an educator and a volunteer for the American Red Cross in disaster services. In 1981 h e joined the Red Cross as an employee and has worked at all levels within the organization including responsibilities as government liaison officer with FEMA and most recently as a hazard mitigation officer. His training i ncludes programs through Red Cross disaster services\, the State Fire Mars hall’s Office\, Ohio EMA and FEMA. His background consists of “on-site” wo rk at more than 25 disasters throughout the eastern and mid-west United St ates. Jim earned a bachelors degree from Ohio Northern University\, a mast er’s degree from Bowling Green State University in special education and e ducational supervision and is a licensed amateur radio operator. Jim also holds the designation of certified manager from the Institute of Certified Professional Managers.
